It has been a little over 6 months since surgery and recovery is going extremely well. This weekend I went downhill mountain biking at Trestle Bike Park in Winter Park, CO. I have also started playing some indoor soccer in the last couple weeks and getting stronger every week. I seem to have full range of motion back and am now working on improving my Achilles/Calf strength to increase endurance and reduce risk of injury during sudden impacts or reactionary movements. Next goal is to be playing goalkeeper for my soccer team before the fall season starts in August!
Had surgery today to repair my ruptured Achilles tendon. Surgery went smoothly and I am now resting comfortably at home. i will spend the next day and a half in bed to ice and elevate my leg and am in a splint and bandages for the next two weeks until my followup appointment with strict non-weight bearing instructions.
Yesterday during a soccer game I completely ruptured my right Achilles tendon. It wasn't some crazy situation battling for the ball or chasing down an opponent. No, in fact I was standing still and then went to press off to start running and it felt like somebody swiped my leg out from underneath me. The "pop" was heard as far as ~30 ft away by other players and spectators. Immediately I knew it was blown because I could feel the tendon in the back of my left ankle, however, the back of my right was just soft.
I visited Dr. Ocel at Cornerstone Orthopedic this morning and it took him about 10 seconds to confirm my suspicions. Surgery is scheduled for next week and it sounds like I will be out of commission for at least 6 months before I start to return to activities. I know the next several months will be hard so I will try to use this forum to keep track of my progress. For now, its a walking boot for me until surgery. Last week we got to meet up with my cousin Nicole and her boyfriend Chrigi, both from Switzerland, for 3 nights of debauchery in Las Vegas! Nicole and Chrigi are on an 8 month, around the world trip which sounds amazing. They are travel through Canada, western U.S., Rarotonga, New Zealand, and Australia, mostly driving! It was so much fun seeing them for a few days since we can't make it to Switzerland very often. While in Las Vegas we did a lot of walking! We saw almost every major resort on the strip, Fountains and Gardens at Bellagio, Fire Show at Mirage, Canal at the Venetian, Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, rode the Roller Coaster at NY NY, the Aquarium at Mandalay Bay, and walked the Fremont Street Experience. We also got some discount tickets to see The Blue Man Group at the Monte Carlo which was a ton of fun! Safe travels Nicole and Chrigi, we hope to see you again soon! :-) Spent a great weekend with co-workers in Winter Park for some downhill mountain biking at Trestle Bike Park. I rented a full suspension downhill bike and had so much fun bombing down the mountain and even took a few jumps. Thanks to James for letting us crash at his condo. Lots of fun playing Cards Against Humanity and a new game that Scott introduced us to called Celebrity. However, we played the game by allowing any noun or phrase which made things much more fun! Finally updated my website to a more user friendly design using the Weebly platform. What do you think??
